Giants abolish left-handed reliever Banda from Rays for cash

SAN FRANCISCO (AP) — The San Francisco Giants received left-hander Anthony Banda from the Tampa Bay Rays for $75,000 on Monday, including depth to their bullpen.

Banda went 1-0 with a 10.29 ERA in four outings with one put over seven innings for the Rays sooner than being designated for project Sunday. Tampa Bay wished a negate on its 40-man roster.

He gave up 5 runs on 5 hits with three walks in a single inning earlier Sunday in opposition to the Marlins in Miami.

San Francisco’s fee to the Rays is due on Sept. 15.

Also Monday, the Giants placed outfielder Joey Rickard on the 60-day injured checklist with left elbow irritation.
